Green bean machine
The Green Bean Machine is the van that started it all. My husband and I bought this Westfalia Vanagon in 2007 when our kids were 5 and 3 years old. I immediately fell in love. Camping was soooooooo easy. The van was always loaded and ready to go. All we had to do was pack a bag, walk out the door and hit the road, kids laughing with excitement in the back (or, let's be honest, screaming at each other depending on the day). Loved loved loved it. Then the kids got older.
More and more they wanted to bring a friend on our camping trips and more and more we were called on to carpool to and from soccer practice, band practice, chess club, etc. with three, four, and five other kids in tow. The Vanagon became impractical. Sadly, we sold the Green Bean Machine in 2013 for a Honda Pilot that could accommodate more passengers. Crocodile tears. The frequency of our family camping trips took a nose dive. No longer was it easy and quick. We were schlepping camping gear all the time.
All we had to do was pack a bag, walk out the door and hit the road
Sleeping bags, Coleman stoves, cookware, propane tanks, tents - in and out and in and out and in and out of the garage to and from the car. How many times did we forget the tent stakes, or the propane, or the plates? ALL.THE.TIME. Camping became a major production and a very big chore. And the absolute worst? Relegated to sleeping in a tent, we were no longer among the cool kids at Pickathon in the camper van section. We'd made a huge mistake. In late 2016 we bought a 2002 VW Eurovan.
Oh yes, we're back. In early 2017 we bought a second 2002 VW Eurovan and I decided to create GoCamp. Why? I know from direct experience that there is just nothing better than hopping in a fully loaded camper van, hitting the road to somewhere fabulous, and popping the top for a night under the stars with friends or family. Camper vans just make it so dang easy. I also know that if GoCamp had existed a few years ago, I never would have sold the Green Bean Machine.
Thus was born GoCamp and it's corollary GoCamp Camper Club. For those of you looking for an adventure, we're here to help make it easy to get out and explore. And for those of you with a well-maintained Eurovan or Vanagon, we're here to provide a platform so that you can earn a little extra money and make owning a camper van just a bit more practical. Plus, what about all those upgrades (Fiamna awning anyone?) you've been wanting to make? We'll be officially open for business in April 2017.
