Mt Hood to Coast

There's a race in Oregon called "Hood to Coast" where runners race from the top of Mt Hood all the way to the Oregon coast. The GoCamp camper van named Mt Hood is familiar with the route as it often is running from the mountains to the coast and back again.

After its very first outing renters wrote "The Mount Hood was immaculate, very well-stocked, and super fun to drive with its manual stick shift. The engine was solid and reliable. For me, it was romantic with the old fashioned hand cranked windows and the giant steering wheel (swoon!). The owners literally thought of everything a person might need while camping."

We agree. This 1986 Vanagon Weekender has a Subaru engine, a 4 speed manual transmission, and enough horsepower to take mountain passes with ease and keep pace with highway traffic.

The van is mostly original but includes the following upgrades: dimmer controlled LED lights in the main cabin and the pop-top, LED reading lights for the back seat, a hands-free Bluetooth stereo with all new speakers and subwoofer to crank tunes above the road noise, snap-on rain fly to keep the pop-top dry on those rainy nights, shoulder belts for the back seats, curtains all the way around for privacy and to keep out the morning sun, memory foam topper for bottom bed to maximize comfort, large skylight for stargazing, gas struts to make raising the pop-top easy and a 120 volt inverter with USB outlet to keep your electronics charged.

A perfect night in a GoCamp camper van.

Tortuga At the Oregon Coast

Tyler Fields describes himself as an "Oregon native living in New England." He seemed pretty keen on getting back to the west coast recently and decided that renting a GoCamp camper van would be the perfect vehicle for his travels. He chose Tortuga, a Vanagon Camper.

Tyler and his girlfriend Meredith headed to the Oregon coast for a few days of checking out lighthouses - like the Heceta Head Lighthouse below - catching up with friends, and telling stories around the campfire. Tyler noted upon his return that he was reluctant to wash his clothes; he didn't want to lose the smell of the fire.

He and Meredith got engaged on their vacation, so we bet there's no risk they'll forget this trip! Congratulations Tyler and Meredith. Wishing you lots of beautiful sunsets together long into the future.
