When you hop into this van you will feel like you can go anywhere and do just about anything. So head to the High Sierra, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Joshua Tree – whether it is hiking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, surfing – whatever adventure you can dream up, this is your rig. And not to worry, Yoshi is good for just sitting by the camp fire and relaxing too. 😉

This rare Sportsmobile 4×4 van is perfect for two, a crew of friends, or you can take the whole family along. The lower bench seats two people (one of those passengers can be in a car seat). Then, when you are done driving, that same bench seat seat folds down into a bed that can sleep two. Two more will be perfectly comfortable in the upper “penthouse” bed. Kids love it up there; it’s like their own personal tree fort. And unlike other pop tops, this roof raises full level, not at a slant. That means you  get lots of head room throughout the vehicle when it  is raised, and the sleeping up top is not cramped at all. There are also large screened windows that provide lots of cross-ventilation.

And when you are not cooling the van with that cross-ventilation, you can stay warm throughout the night with a propane powered heater. Wake up in the morning to a delicious cup of coffee or tea. Yoshi’s kitchen has a fridge, two-burner stove (propane), cabinets, and sink (10 gallon internal clean water & grey water tank system).

Yoshi is also equipped with cruise control, a new stereo with CarPlay and Android Auto, a back-up camera, a standalone shade tent, external gearbox, table, and loads of internal storage for all of your gear. In the back, there are 2 forklift bike racks and a ski/snowboard rack, next to an external storage box to hold all of your gear for all-weather adventure. The van is also entirely self-sufficient with solar power, so you can dry camp where permitted! We’ll include shore power hook-up and city water hose in case you want to plug-in. Upon request, we’ll provide a “Cleanwaste Go Anywhere Portable Toilet,” which complies with BLM for use on rivers where toilets are required (please research this toilet and bring your own toilet kits).

If you are flying into the Bay Area, you can store bulky suitcases in our garage for the duration of your trip to save van space. And we’re happy to accommodate special requests; just ask! There is a notoriously long waitlist to purchase one of these amazing Sportsmobile conversions. Luckily, you can jump to the front of the line by renting Yoshi.

Hop in and Go

All vans are considered “road trip ready.” Whether you are flying in from out of town or looking to explore your own backyard, all you really need to do is stop for groceries before hitting the road. All cookware and tableware is included, as is bedding and a wide array of camping gear. You’ll be sent a detailed list of all the items included in the van before your trip so you can plan accordingly. Select any of the optional add-ons listed below when completing your reservation.

    Rental days are based on a 24-hour period. If you pick up at 10 am you are generally expected to return at 10 am. Want to pick up your van in the morning, but drop it off in the evening? Add a half day to your rental.

Pick Up and Drop Off

Rentals are Calculated on a 24-hour Basis: The rental period is generally considered to be 24 hours. If you pick up the van at 10 am, you’ll be expected to return it around 10 am. Most van owners can accommodate requests for a few extra hours at $20/hour. Alternatively, if you want to pick up in the morning and drop off in the evening, simply select the optional half day add-on when completing your reservation.

Pick Up and Drop Off Time: There is no set pick up and drop off time. You’ll make arrangements suited to your needs and schedule with the van’s owner. You can indicate your preferred pick up and drop off time when completing your reservation; final arrangements will be confirmed with the van’s owner.



Insurance coverage includes $1 million in liability to the renter, $1 million in liability to the van owner, and comp and collision coverage up to $125,000. Coverage costs $32.50/day and is required as part of the rental.

Roadside Assistance

We make 24-hour roadside assistance available for $15 a day. Coverage includes unlimited: towing, flat tire assistance, emergency fluids delivery, battery boost, and a mobile mechanic. Many van owners require 24-hour roadside assistance as part of the rental. Where coverage is mandatory, you must either purchase our policy, or show proof of comparable coverage (such as AAA PLUS or PREMIER).


125 miles per day is included in every rental. Additional miles are charged at 35 cents per mile. For example, on a four-night rental, you will have 500 free miles. If you traveled 600 miles, you would pay an additional $35 at the end of your trip.

Security Deposit

You’ll pay a security deposit of $1,000 - $1500 (vehicle dependent) two days before your rental starts. The security deposit is returned, less any additional fees, usually no more than 7 days after you return.

  • Cancellation Policy

    You can reschedule your reservation without penalty. You can cancel the vehicle for a full refund, less a 5% service fee, up to 14 days prior to the rental. If you cancel less than 14 days prior to the rental, you will receive a refund for 50% of the rental fee. Cancellations must be made in writing.

    We are unable to offer refunds for shortened trips if for some reason (e.g. weather, change in schedule) you return the vehicle early.
