Catalina the Cruising Cabin
Catalina the Cruising Cabin, aka “Catbus,” is a Toyota Hiace, right-hand drive camper van with pop-top, imported from Japan. If you are looking for a unique, leisurely and surprisingly fuel efficient getaway vehicle, Catalina is the van for you! She will not get you to your destination quickly, but she will remind you to enjoy the journey.
Brad, the owner, lovingly cares for Catalina to keep her road trip worthy. Brad and his wife toured the Southwest and many parts of Oregon in Catalina and are always left smiling at the end of the day.
Catalina transitions from a passenger van to a full camper van with some simple maneuvering of the seats, or lift the roof with the assisted hydraulic struts if you prefer to sleep in the pop-top. There is nothing quite like sleeping in a dense forest, or epic desert landscape, and having all the views available from Catalina’s panoramic windows.
Catalina is a great choice for all types of van life adventures – you can connect to shore power at campgrounds and run all your three pronged devices from inside the van to work remotely, or you have the option to disconnect in more remote locations. The auxiliary batteries will keep your fridge cold and low voltage appliances charged!
The kitchen has a two-burner propane stove, a fridge and sink, and comes fully stocked with kitchen supplies. There are two deep storage hampers for personal items, and a roof box that is available as an add-on if you need a place to store that extra camping gear, skis or snowboards. Or bring along your SUPs or surfboards — you can strap them to the van’s exterior roof rack.
Catalina comes with her original awning – it works great and allows you to set up outside the van to extend your living space with the camp chairs and table provided. The pop top takes some getting used to, and for shorter trips may be harder to get the hang of, but do not fret, we have solutions!
Catalina comfortably seats four, but can accommodate larger groups up to 6. There are chest belts in the front seats, and lap belts in the back. Catalina can sleep up to four – two in the cab and two in the pop top. We promise to walk you through everything and set you up to love your time cruising in Catalina!
Thinking of getting an imported microvan for yourself? Give Catalina a spin first and see just how great these vehicles can be.
