Grand Adventure Awaits in The Beast

The Beast is a Ford E250, the big boy of the Econoline series, which the owners, Sarah and Jodi, have turned into a cozy and spacious home on wheels. Originally the van was used as a movable filming studio. Its traveler owners (from Zurich and Barcelona) fully “camperized” it to become a home for their relocation from British Columbia to the Bay Area. Now it is time to share it with other adventurers!

That’s why The Beast is the perfect vehicle for a couple, or two friends, to explore the West Coast. It is well equipped for camping outdoors as well for having a pleasant time inside. Snuggle with a cup of tea and watch movies (or have a yoga session) while it’s raining outside. Or enjoy a full breakfast with the most amazing views!

This custom conversion includes a big long table (slide it out from under the bed), great for hosting a dinner with guests from the neighboring campsite. The dimming light sets just the right mood. Next to the bed and table, you can charge your devices while using them, sitting on the bench. (The bench is comfortable enough for sleeping, if you’d rather sleep on separate beds.)

A portable heat diffuser will take the chill off a cold winter night. Switch on the ceiling fan for some fresh air on a hot summer day. The fan pulls air outside, too, for when you’re cooking or just need a little ventilation.

Cook on the indoor 2-burner stove, prepping on the big table. The custom sink is designed to let you wash dishes standing up, tucking out of the way when not in use. The Beast’s kitchen is equipped with all the tools necessary for the most complex dishes you can imagine.

Got gear? There’s plenty of room in The Beast. Bring all the traveling and sport toys you want. The under-the-bed storage is humongous, equipped with boxes for organization.

Hop in and Go

All vans are considered “road trip ready.” Whether you are flying in from out of town or looking to explore your own backyard, all you really need to do is stop for groceries before hitting the road. All cookware and tableware is included, as is bedding and a wide array of camping gear. You’ll be sent a detailed list of all the items included in the van before your trip so you can plan accordingly. Select any of the optional add-ons listed below when completing your reservation.

Optional Add-ons

  • 2+ Drivers
    Your reservation already includes costs to verify up to two drivers. Will you have more than two drivers? Add additional driver verifications to your reservation.
  • Add a half day to your rental
    Rental days are based on a 24-hour period. If you pick up at 10 am you are generally expected to return at 10 am. Want to pick up your van in the morning, but drop it off in the evening? Add a half day to your rental.
  • Pet fee
    This van is pet-friendly. Bring Rover!
  • Airport pick up
    We'll pick you up at SFO/OAK and get you right on the road.
  • Airport drop off
    We'll drop you at your gate at SFO/OAK when the adventure is over.
  • Soaking tub (Japanese style)
    This PVC soaking tub is a great option for campers who want a relaxing soak. Cleaned and sanitized for your protection between renters, of course!

Book Your Trip

Pick Up and Drop Off

Rentals are Calculated on a 24-hour Basis: The rental period is generally considered to be 24 hours. If you pick up the van at 10 am, you’ll be expected to return it around 10 am. Most van owners can accommodate requests for a few extra hours at $20/hour. Alternatively, if you want to pick up in the morning and drop off in the evening, simply select the optional half day add-on when completing your reservation.

Pick Up and Drop Off Time: There is no set pick up and drop off time. You’ll make arrangements suited to your needs and schedule with the van’s owner. You can indicate your preferred pick up and drop off time when completing your reservation; final arrangements will be confirmed with the van’s owner.



Insurance coverage includes $1 million in liability to the renter, $1 million in liability to the van owner, and comp and collision coverage up to $125,000. Coverage costs $32.50/day and is required as part of the rental.

Roadside Assistance

We make 24-hour roadside assistance available for $15 a day. Coverage includes unlimited: towing, flat tire assistance, emergency fluids delivery, battery boost, and a mobile mechanic. Many van owners require 24-hour roadside assistance as part of the rental. Where coverage is mandatory, you must either purchase our policy, or show proof of comparable coverage (such as AAA PLUS or PREMIER).


125 miles per day is included in every rental. Additional miles are charged at 35 cents per mile. For example, on a four-night rental, you will have 500 free miles. If you traveled 600 miles, you would pay an additional $35 at the end of your trip.

Security Deposit

You’ll pay a security deposit of $1,000 - $1500 (vehicle dependent) two days before your rental starts. The security deposit is returned, less any additional fees, usually no more than 7 days after you return.

  • Cancellation Policy

    You can reschedule your reservation without penalty. You can cancel the vehicle for a full refund, less a 5% service fee, up to 14 days prior to the rental. If you cancel less than 14 days prior to the rental, you will receive a refund for 50% of the rental fee. Cancellations must be made in writing.

    We are unable to offer refunds for shortened trips if for some reason (e.g. weather, change in schedule) you return the vehicle early.
